Artificial Intelligence at the University of Arizona
In 2022, generative artificial intelligence (AI) erupted into the scene and has forced instructors to adapt as a result. With the release of generative AI technologies like ChatGPT, higher education has been exposed to endless possibilities and challenges. Learn more about these University resources that will help instructors learn more about the capabilities of AI and how they can effectively use the tool to help students recognize fabrication, biases, inaccuracies, or shallow reasoning.
June 27, 2023 Update for instructors from the University Center for Assessment, Teaching, and Technology (UCATT)
The Turnitin AI Detection feature, which became available earlier this year, has been temporarily disabled for all UArizona courses. We became aware that the feature generated inconsistent results in and that we do not yet have strong guidance for instructors who wish to use this tool. The feature will remain disabled until we can learn more from the vendor on the methods this feature uses to screen submissions and additional resources around AI use and detection can be provided to the UArizona community.
A campus working group is addressing the need to provide guidance to instructors on the topic of academic integrity and AI; look for resources later in the summer to help guide instructors in this fast-changing area.
