Safe Baby
In 2009, the Pima County Attorney's Office, Casa de los Niños, and the Dean of Students Office came together to create an awareness campaign on the University of Arizona campus. The campaign's purpose is to provide information concerning the Tucson Safe Baby Program, a program that allows the anonymous transfer of a newborn baby at any local hospital, clinic, or fire department station.
The program allows for the anonymous transfer of a newborn as long as the baby:
- Is physically handed to a professional on duty at one of the locations listed below
- Is brought in within 72 hours of birth
- Shows no signs of intentional injury
Safe Haven locations:
- Any Hospital
- Any Ambulance
- Any Designated Adoption Agency
- On-duty Fire Stations
- Any Designated Church
There will be no prosecution for abandonment if these conditions are met.
The program's message is:
Don't Panic, there is an option. You are not alone!
